A Fun Math Thing For Parents And Kids

In this post I wanted to point readers to a new parent-facing tool created by a nonprofit organization called Learning Heroes.

A direct link to the tool:

    https://bealearninghero.org/es/readiness-check/ (Spanish)

Now I might be biased because I created the math problems, but I think this tool turned out nicely. And to be clear, all credit goes to the Learning Heroes team—for the original concept, the interface design, extensive user testing with parents, nice production values, and so on.

Subject to the constraints of the project—five brief problems with short answers in each grade, no drawing, no written responses—I think these nine grades’ worth of problems actually do a pretty good job of portraying the math content grade by grade.

Friends who have checked out the tool have enjoyed doing the math…and so did my kids! Having helped me to refine the problems over many evenings at the dinner table, they were excited to see the live online version.
