Perimeter Puzzle

On a six-by-six grid, shade 28 squares so that the perimeter of the resulting shape is (a) as small as possible (b) as large as possible.

My min = 24; my max = 42. (Perhaps the ultimate question of the meaning of life, the universe and everything is, "What is the maximum perimeter of a figure comprised of 28 squares on a 6x6 grid?"!)
